    Samsung UA55C9000 3D LCD TV

At $10,000, the Samsung UA55C9000 costs more than twice what an otherwise similarly specified, similarly sized, Samsung TV would sell for. So what’s so special about it? We reckon that several of the more extraordinary features justify that price.

Determining energy consumption

product

The energy rating label also features an energy consumption figure in kilowatt hours that provides an estimate of the appliance?s annual energy consumption. If two models have the same capacity and star rating, choose the model with the lower energy consumption because it is more energy efficient.

What about other home appliances?

Whitegoods are the only home appliances that have a mandatory energy efficiency labelling system. Other home electronics products such as computers, printers, photocopiers, TVs, audio products and DVD players may contain Energy Star labels but these are not mandatory. Products with these labels save energy by automatically switching the appliance to ?sleep mode? or reducing the amount of energy used during standby when the product is not in use. For more information on Energy Star labelling, visit www.energystar.gov.au

TESAW awards

If you don?t have time or don?t want to spend time researching the best energy efficient products, then checking out the Top Energy Saver Awards (TESAW) is a good place to start.

The TESAW awards identify which appliances are the most energy efficient on the market and winning products that meet TESAW criteria display their award in the green band at the bottom of the energy label, or in a separate label adjacent to the normal energy label. Learn more about the most recent TESAW winners at http://www.energyrating.gov.au/tesaw-main.html#how
