Asus doubles up with a dual-screened 13 incher

They say that two is always better than one, and Asus is betting big on that with the addition of another Taichi model, an Ultrabook that not only blends sleek design with a thin chassis and Intel’s processors, but also packs in a screen on both the front and the back.

Like the 11.6 inch model released last year, the new Asus Taichi takes an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and throws it into a thin and light body, along with either a 128 or 256GB solid state drive, 4GB RAM, and Windows 8.

With this version, now called the Taichi 31, you’ll have two 13.3 inch Full HD screens, one in the regular clamshell laptop position and the other on the back.

We suspect only one of these will have 10 point multi touch, as that’s the way it was on the first model, but we’re checking into that now.

There are multiple ways this machine can run, too, with an extended desktop possible on the second screen, making it possible to run two sets of apps – say a video for the kids on the back while you work on the main screen inside the laptop – or just mirror what you’re doing and show everyone a presentation.

Asus is also packing in dual-band WiFi, USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0, and sound technology from Bang & Olufsen, making it a high-end computer.

Pricing starts at $1999 for the Core i5 or $2399 for the Core i7, with the Taichi 31 coming to stores across Australia this week.
