Books meet bath time with a Kobo’s waterproof e-reader

If you like to read in the bath, but haven’t quite embraced the whole e-reader thing because you know what liquid can do to electronics, look out, there’s a waterproof e-book reader coming.

A new electronic reader is heading to Australia, and it’s not afraid of the beach or the bath, because it will offer a touchscreen, electronic ink display, and a fair amount of water resistance.

It’s called the Aura H20, and it’s Kobo’s e-reader technology at its best, offering a 6.8 inch high definition electronic ink touchscreen display showing off 265dpi in black and white.

There’s also 4GB storage with a way of expanding this using microSD, a 1GHz processor for the small amount of processing you’ll need (page turning and the like), and a battery life of up to two months.

“The Aura H2O is the first device to truly enable Aussie readers to enjoy the books they love, whether they are on the beach, in the bath, or lounging by the pool,” said Malcolm Neil, Director of Content Acquisition and Publisher Relations at Kobo.

“We found that some of our customers avoided taking eReaders to the beach or reading in the bath because they were worried about water damage. In developing the Aura H2O, we wanted to break down that barrier and ensure that everyone can read anywhere and continue to enjoy the Kobo experience.”

Pricing for this water resistant electronic reader will come in at $229, with availability from February 5 next year (2015) online, as well as JB HiFi, Myer, Harvey Norman, and other stores.
