Convergence comes to vacuum cleaners as Bissell throws in a steam mop

Cleaning is one of those activities that is rarely fun, but if you can get two things done at one time, why not? And if you can cut down on the appliances you need with one to do both activities, isn’t that better long term?

The two activities we’re talking about are vacuuming and mopping the floor, and while we’re sure you do the first of those every week or two, it’s the second which is probably less touched upon. That might be because you don’t have a steam mop, or that it’s too much of a hassle.

But what if you could vacuum and steam, simultaneously?

That level of convergence is coming to homes shortly as Bissell releases the appropriately named “Vac & Steam,” which marries a vacuum cleaner and a steam cleaner in the same appliance, able to work together vacuuming your floor and then steaming it.

We’re told that doing these things together can kill up to 99.9% of all bacteria, an activity which is no doubt helped and enforced by the antimicrobial protection in the two provided mop pads for the steaming function. Meanwhile, the vacuum takes care of dust and particles with strong suction and cyclonic action.

One thing that you do need to know about this product is that you don’t need to use the vacuum and steam cleaner at the same time, as it’s not mandatory. You can use both features simultaneously, or alternatively, you can just vacuum or just steam clean.

We’re just keen to see convergence come to more than just the smartphone, because while it’s great that our phones can now be our media players, our cameras, and in some cases projectors, we’ve been curious to see if convergence will hit other gadgets in our home.

Well, that has finally happened, and if you’re at all curious to see what a combo vacuum and steam cleaner is like, you’ll find Bissell’s Vac & Steam in retailers across Australia from July onwards with a recommended retail price of $369.
