Double score: Panasonic announces 3D lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras

Trumping anything from mirrorless interchangeable competitors including Sony and Samsung, Panasonic has announced another world first: an interchangeable 3D lens.

Similar to the just-announced HDC-SDT750 camcorder which included a “3D conversion lens,” the interchangeable 3D lens incorporates two lenses in the one design.

Right now, the only other mirrorless interchangeable cameras (MILC) that can take 3D images are from Sony’s NEX camera series, and that only occurs in 3D panorama sweep mode. This marks the first time a 3D lens has been specifically designed for a digital interchangeable lens camera.
Geared at users of the Lumix G Micro System, the lens is slated for release by the end of the year.
