Kingston rings in Chinese New Year with USB drive

Everyone has a different way of celebrating the new year. You might eat a lot of food, possibly a moon cake, but if you’re Kingston, you apparently release a USB drive.

Yes, Chinese New Year is nearly upon us, arriving on February 19, and memory maker Kingston is celebrating with a USB drive styled for the animal being celebrated on the Chinese Zodiac this year.

We’re told that’s either the sheep or the goat depending on how you interpret the new year, and for Kingston, it appears to be the sheep, as it shows off “The Year of the Sheep” drive.

This is a USB drive shaped like a sheep, a cartoonish one at that, with a rubber casing and a box made in the shape of an octagon, which Kingston sends word symbolises good fortune.

“Our DataTraveler Chinese Zodiac USB drive lineup has been one of the most popular products among collectors over the years,” Nathan Su, Director of Flash Memory Sales for Kingston in the Asia Pacific region.

“This year, the round design of The Year of the Sheep USB drive represents “perfection”, “unity”, being “fulfilled” and being at “one”. This harmonious limited edition USB drive aims to bring wealth and a sense of wholeness to complete the year of 2015.”

We’re not sure we believe that a USB drive will bring a sense of wholeness, especially since it’s a USB 2.0 drive — not 3.0 — and only includes 16GB of storage, but if you do (or even if you like cartoony sheep that sit alongside your USB port), you’ll find Kingston’s Year of the Sheep drive available in stores shortly for $22.
