LEGO returns to adult life with Belkin’s blocktastic case

Care to relive a part of your childhood every day? Belkin is teaming up with everyone’s favourite block construction brand LEGO to bring the starter surface to the back of an iPhone.

Generally, Apple designs its iPhones to be slick, simple, and clean. That’s not for everyone, though, and if the kid in you is yearning to out, a new case might just be the very thing.

Built specifically for the iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod Touch, the LEGO Builder Case provides the dotted 3D surface normally seen on LEGO baseplates and allows you to build creations right on top of your iDevice.

“With today’s announcement we are transforming phone cases into a fun, interactive and creative experience for both kids and kids at heart while still delivering the protection required,” said Brendan Sparks, Head of Marketing and Product Management for Belkin in the Australia and New Zealand region.

From what we’ve seen, most LEGO blocks should have no problem fitting on the Belkin case, potentially allowing anyone with an imagination and a heap of blocks to try creating something fitting of their phone.

Whether or not it will stay when you pick up your device is anyone’s guess, but at least you’ll have some fun playing with one of the first make-your-own-cases we’ve seen.

“At LEGO, we strive to build imagination into your everyday life, and the partnership with Belkin allows us to do that: offer a functional product that also serves as a stage for expression for anyone embracing a mobile lifestyle,” said Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, Chief Executive Officer of the LEGO Group.

Belkin’s LEGO cases will be hitting stores across Australia this week, coming in at $39.95, though you’ll want to bring your own bricks as none are included in the box.

We’re checking with Belkin to find out if anything is happening with cases for other devices, such as the iPhone 4 and 4S, as well as popular Android and Windows Phone products.
