Pac-Man turns 30

One of the oldest video game characters Pac-Man turned 30 this weekend, with Google going the extra mile and turning their logo into a playable version of the classic title.

The celebrated video game first appeared in Japanese arcades on May 22, 1980 and saw the yellow chomping circle eat a whole bunch of dots while trying to avoid the four ghosts.

Pac-Man wasn’t the original name, however. The original release name of “Puck-Man” was canned as it was expected people would change the “P” to an “F” and… well… you get the idea.

With thirty years gone by, Google has celebrated with a playable version of the Google logo, complete with sound and a map based around the Google logo. We’ve probably spent far too much time playing it here as it’s become our new favourite time waster.
