Samsung’s Gear VR delayed, Australia to receive headset 2015

So much for a virtual reality friendly holiday season, as Samsung tells Aussies that it won’t be playing with the headset this Christmas.

Samsung’s entrance into VR technology was first shown earlier in the year, and it looks to be a killer app, providing a feature made just for Note 4 owners to take them into the next generation of games with an eye-friendly headset that was about as portable as the phone, and yet made for Samsung’s big-screen recently released phablet, and not the one with the edge.

You’ve been able to count us among the excited with this one, as the idea of virtual reality to go is an intriguing one, and our initial play with Samsung’s Gear VR was a very positive one, even if it needed some work when we first had a go.

Snap in your Galaxy Note 4 and you're good to go.

But it looks like this year won’t herald the release of the Gear VR, at least not locally, with Samsung releasing this statement:

“Samsung Electronics Australia wishes to advise that the Gear VR on-sale date has been revised to early 2015. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

That means no VR for Note 4 owners, and no real concrete date as for when they’ll be able to jump on, despite demos of the units appearing around Australia already.

We’re checking with Samsung to find out what the hold up is, especially when it just launched in America and was looking good for a Christmas-ready release in Australia. Hopefully, we’ll have more information on this shortly.
