Toshiba to launch tablet, available for $579 in a few weeks

It seems as though everyone’s got a tablet up their sleeves, and now we can put Toshiba in this category, with the company telling us of plans to launch something at the end of June.

Priced at $579, the new tablet will be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and will feature a 10.1 inch LED backlit screen, Android 3.0 Honeycomb, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, 5 megapixel rear camera, stereo speakers, USB, DLNA, and HDMI. Toshiba’s “Resolution+” technology is included too, upscaling videos where needed.

“The new Toshiba Tablet (AT100) offers a number of stand-out features to give consumers the ultimate choice in connected convenience and importantly offers more features than other similar products in the market,” said Mark Whittard, Toshiba Australia’s Managing Director.

“Users can customise the way their Tablet looks with a number of stylish removable back covers.  They can also easily watch movies on a big screen TV through the full size HDMI port and also view photos by simply placing their SD card straight from their camera to the Toshiba Tablet.  Importantly the removable back cover allows easy battery replacement for extra battery life when required.”

No word yet on whether this tablet will feature 3G, but going on the $579 price tag, we’d hazard a guess that it has WiFi but no 3G access.

One thing it will have is a range of accessories, with Toshiba releasing coloured back covers, a dock with HDMI, a portfolio case, and a removable 6 cell battery pack.
