Hisense 100-inch laser TV – supersize me

Hisense 100-inch laser TV

The new Hisense 100-inch laser TV is both big and small. Big in that it can project a 100-inch (2.54m) diagonal image from about 60cm away from its screen and small in that the projector comfortably sits on an entertainment unit or shelf about 60cm wide.

GadgetGuy’s Thomas Bartlett will review the Hisense 100-inch laser TV soon, so we don’t want to steal too much thunder.

Let’s position the Hisense 100-inch laser TV model H100LDA.

First, and most important this is 5th generation laser TV

Don’t compare it to those sold overseas. This has Wide Colour Gamut, 10-bit colour (over 1 billion), 95% DCI-P3, longer laser light life and higher brightness.

Why: 100-inches of 4K, HDR for the person cave. While good light control is mandatory for the best, deepest colour image, we saw it in daylight, and it was more than watchable.
TV: It is a full solution with a Digital TV tuner; UHD/4K upscale; 2.1 sound dbx-TV, JBL tuned (2 x 10W and 1x 60W); 1 HDMI ARC 60Hz and 1 x HDMI 60Hz ports; USB, Ethernet; Wi-fi AC dual-band; and audio in/out ports. So, you can connect a Blu-ray or games console or even a home theatres Dolby Atmos sound system.
Laser: Hisense uses a dual RB laser with an estimated 25,000 hours half-life (when brightness drops 50%) which is over 8.5 years at 365/8 viewing!
Screen: Probably the secret sauce as it rejects light coming from anywhere but the projector lens and can achieve up to 3000 lumens. Being practical it is more than enough for HDR but not enough for HDR10/Dolby Vision (downscale to HDR). Size/Weight: 224.1 x 127.2 x 4.4 cm x 31.4kg.
OS: VIDAA U Smart TV with an app store. Includes most popular streaming and catch-up TV apps.
Size: At 609 (W) x 398 (D) x 205mm (H) x 19kg plus screen and wireless sub-woofer it is not overly portable, and the screen is wall mounted. Best minimum viewing distance is 3 metres.
Energy: a tad over 500Wh or about 25 cents per hour.

Who buys the Hisense 100-inch laser TV?

Hisense 100-inch laser TV
It is kids safe as sensors prevent you looking into the laser

It’s a media room purchase where you want the biggest bang for buck. I was impressed at the clarity, colour, saturation and hue in daylight and particularly the great off-angle viewing (unlike most TVs).

As it will be years before 8K content becomes standard, this 4K device will have a long, productive life. The main benefit of this is the short throw making it easy to set up a media room. The updates in this 5th generation model address any concerns you may have had with laser TV.

Price: $19,999 for the laser TV, screen and white-glove installation if you live in metro VIC, NSW, QLD, SA and WA no more than 25km from select JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys from the end of September. OK, you need to have more than loose change.
