Huawei MWC 2019 – new notebooks, 5G, foldables and more

Huawei

Huawei MWC 2019 (Mobile World Congress) announcements cement this company as a key smartphone, 5G and PC player.

GadgetGuy Thomas Bartlett is over at MWC as a guest of OPPO and Huawei and has covered the foldable ‘preview’ here, and it looks fabulous along with its patented fold flat Falcon Wing Mechanical Hinge.

The Huawei Mate X website is here.

But we are also interested in its Windows 10 notebooks.

Huawei MWC 2019

Our recent review of the 13.9-inch MateBook X Pro stated it was close to perfection scoring 4.8-out-of-5. Well, Huawei has listened, and there is now an updated version of the MateBook X Pro. Changes include a later Intel Core processor, Nvidia GeForce MX250GPU and 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 – that may earn it 4.9 points – we don’t want any manufacturer getting too cocky!

MateBook 13 and 14 are coming as well

It is time another manufacturer breathed some more innovation in the Windows notebook field. Not knocking HP’s scantily leather-clad Spectre, or ASUS’s spun ZenBooks or Yoga’s funky bendable…

No Huawei’s offerings are for mainstream consumers – Joe and Jane Average that want rock-solid construction, longevity and value.

The main differentiator is these also have FullView 3:2 ratio, 2160 x 1440, displays – almost no bezels that allow a larger screen in a smaller, lighter notebook. We will advise you of the specifications, price and availability when we have more.

Huawei 5G CPE Pro for 5G home broadband

Optus has long been the best option and value for 4G fixed Home Broadband if you live close enough to a tower. Well, it now offers a 5G fixed home broadband.

But to do that it needs a great modem and Huawei’s Balong 5G modem fits that bill nicely.

The Huawei 5G CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) Pro supports both 4G and 5G wireless connections. It has set a new benchmark for home CPEs on a 5G network: a 1GB HD video clip can download within three seconds, and 8K video can be streamed smoothly without lag.

The Huawei 5G CPE Pro is also for small and medium-sized enterprises for super-fast broadband access.

Huawei claims it is the only manufacturer with a full range of end-to-end 5G product, covering chipsets, edge and cloud services.
