LG promises AI for an even better ‘Life’s Good’ at CES 2019

LG

LG President and CTO Dr IP Park asked one simple question – Is technology making your life better? How much better and better how? It all revolves around AI.

Dr Park said

“Over the past 100 years, household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and vacuum cleaners have reduced time spent on housework by around 75%, but the amount of cognitive labour involved has significantly increased. The answer lies in AI – but only if we can achieve true intelligence.”

Proclaiming LG’s vision for the age of artificial intelligence, Dr Park explained how the three key ideas – Evolve, Connect and Open – will empower AI technology to transform every aspect of daily life.

Dr Park left, Cloi right – who is more intelligent?

LG ThinQ products will evolve by learning about the user, connect seamlessly with customers’ lives and open up an eco-system of innovation made stronger by partnerships and cooperation, ultimately offering “a new and daring definition of a better life.”

You can watch the keynote here. Caution it is 1 hour and 51 minutes (tune it at 32 minutes, and yes, it is worth it).

But you want to know about new LG products.

How about the world’s first rollable 65” OLED TV model 65R9.

No, it is not a gimmick but uses flexible OLED good for 50,000 unrolling’s (once a day for 34 years) and an innovative frame/canister system to present in:

LG

Full View: large-screen viewing experience revealing the full extent of OLED’s contrast, depth and realism via AI picture and sound quality powered by LG’s second-generation α (Alpha) 9 intelligent processor and deep learning algorithm. It supports Amazon Alexa, Google Assitant, Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit (required an Apple source device).

Line View: partially unrolled allowing for management of specific tasks that do not require the full TV screen. Think Clock, Frame, Mood, Music and Home Dashboard.

Zero View: All gone! Users can access Dolby Atmos and other audio content from its 4.2-channel, 100W front-firing system. It has a brushed aluminium casing and quality wool speaker cover designed by Kvadrat of Denmark.

Price – if you need to ask you can’t afford it.

LG XBOOM rocks the room

The XBOOM family comprises mini-components, and all-in-one units, XBOOM Go portable Bluetooth speakers and XBOOM AI ThinQ smart speakers.

The new flagship XBOOM mini-component (model CL98) has a solid output of 3,500W and incorporates a Compression Horn to generate crisper, more detailed audio across higher frequencies.

LG’s high-end XBOOM (model OL100) delivers 2,000W output, employing a proprietary Blast Horn – a folded air duct behind the driver designed to create acoustic sound pressure by directing air through an amplifying duct – to improve high-frequency reproduction and bass performance; creating sound users can feel as well as hear. It also has Meridian Mode, developed in collaboration with the experts at renowned British company Meridian Audio. This sound setting results in clearer vocals and more responsive bass, perfect for sound buffs who enjoy listening to music while relaxing at home.
