Acer first with an ultrabook below the $1000 mark in Australia

Ever since Intel started telling us about its new thin and light ultrabook class of computer, we were hinted that one day they’d reach the sub-$1000 mark. Well people, that day has arrived, with Acer making a $999 model of its Aspire S3 available to Australia.

Acer’s new model S3 is a little bit different from the one we’re currently reviewing, dropping the 1.6GHz Intel Core i5 for a lower speed 1.4GHz Intel Core i3 model.

The big 256GB solid state drive has also been switched out for a hybrid hard drive and solid state drive system, comprising of a 320GB hard drive with a smaller 20GB SSD, designed to let the computer still perform quickly even with a conventional hard drive on-board.

Other wise, the machine is very similar, complete with the same 13.3 inch screen, 4GB RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, SD card slot, 2 USB ports, HDMI, 3.5mm headphone jack, and ultra thin design.
