ASUS has released the new ASUS External Slim SDRW-08D1S-U optical drive. A user-friendly software interface allows for easy disc burning, allowing users to simply drag and drop data in to the thumbnail layout when writing documents and media onto a new disc. Drawing power from the computer and harnessing USB 2.0 transmission speeds, data transfers are swift with minimal power consumption. Utilising power from the USB port of a PC means the SDRW-08D1S-U does not require an additional power adapter, demonstrating its portability.
The SDRW-08D1S-U also offers enhanced data protection with Disc Encryption technology, allowing users to password-protect an entire disc or partical contents with 128-bit encryption. Furthermore, connection performance between the USB cable and optical drive is increased with the SDRW-08D1S-U integrated Turbo Engine component. Traditionally, computer’s bandwidth slows down conventional optical disc drives while reading or writing data. With Turbo Engine, the SDRW-08D1S-U is able to read and write data at the highest speed.
Price and availability
The ASUS SDRW-08D1S-U will be available in Australia and New Zealand from March 2009 at selected computer resellers, at an RRP of $149.
