AVG offers to tune Android devices for free

Every phone can start to feel slow after an extended use, whether it’s an iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, or Android handset. But people with the latter OS – and there are loads of you around the world – can help solve some of these problems with an app that is hitting Android’s Market for free.

Offered by internet security firm AVG, the company responsible for the popular free “AVG AntiVirus Free” program, AVG TuneUp is a new application available for Android handsets will scan your running applications to see what can be shut down, track your data usage, remove files you’re not using, and find ways to extend your battery life.

“It can be incredibly frustrating when your device runs out of battery suddenly or when multiple applications are leading to a sluggish user experience,” said Yuval Ben-Itzhak, AVG’s Chief Technology Officer.

“AVG TuneUp for Android offers a range of easy-to-use smart tools that work together to ensure that your Android device can keep up with your busy schedule.”

The program, which also runs on Android tablets as well as smartphones, includes a widget for your homescreen that lets you monitor data and battery life through a graphic, while offering shortcuts to shut down services and apps.

AVG’s app is available now from the Android Market.
