Bose gets with the program in an iPhone 5 SoundDock

When Apple changed its dock connector to the new Lightning port, there was a little bit of an outcry. Sure, you could bring a converter to your iPod dock and make an iPhone 5 work, but it wasn’t the same. Well, if you’re a fan of Bose, the company has a new dock made just for the now generation of iDevices.

Designed for the tiny port Apple introduced with the iPhone 5, as well as recent incarnations of the iPod Touch and iPod Nano, the Series III SoundDock brings the Bose quality iPod dock without the original iPod dock connector.

A first for Bose, this model is designed for the current – and likely next – generation of Apple devices, charging and playing music back through the tiny Lightning connector.

Other devices – such as older iPhone models, and smartphones from Android and Windows Phone – can still be used with the Series 3 SoundDock, thanks to the auxiliary port on the back, which allows you to plug in over a 3.5mm cable connection.

There’s no Bluetooth in this dock, but Bose have designed it to be as easy to use as possible, with a remote control to help you change tracks and volume when you’re not close to the dock.

Owners of Apple products with the original dock connector – such as the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 – will still be able to find the Series II SoundDock, a Bose representative said to GadgetGuy this week.

Meanwhile, the Series III model made for the iPhone 5 will be hitting stores this week for $349 RRP.
