Bose Sleepbuds no more – refund/replacement and apology

Bose Sleepbuds are no more – an unfixable battery issue contributed to its untimely demise.

GadgetGuy covered Bose Sleepbuds last year, and on the whole Channel 7 GadgetGuy has been happy with the desired effect – helping to mask noise when sleeping.

Below is a precis of the Bose Sleepbuds announcement

Today, we’re discontinuing the Bose Sleepbuds because the battery does not perform consistently or reliably as it should – it can’t be fixed, and it can’t meet our standards. We’re committed to reaching every owner to let them know. And this morning, we started that process, posting a letter on Bose.com.

Here’s a summary of what we shared:

Most owners have had no problems with their product – they use them regularly and have told us they can’t imagine ending the day without them. But others have had a far different experience. They’ve reported issues with their Sleepbuds not charging fully, powering down unexpectedly, or both.

To support both groups, we’re offering two options to make things right.

1 – Any Sleepbud customer – whether impacted or not – can get a no-hassle refund between now and December 31st, 2019.

Or

2 – They can continue to use their Sleepbuds, or get another pair from a limited supply of Sleepbuds that are less susceptible – but not immune – to the battery-related issues. In either case, if the battery-issue surfaces after December 31st, they’ll be covered under the product’s 2-year warranty, which includes an additional replacement if available, or refund.

As importantly, we’ve also offered owners an apology. As we’ve told them: “For over 50 years, we’ve conducted extensive research to do things that no one ever thought was possible. Each time, we did it to make your life better. When we’ve challenged convention, we haven’t always succeeded. Sometimes, we’ve stumbled. Sometimes, despite our diligence, things have gone wrong. And by far, our worst days are when that’s impacted you. Nothing else comes close. We’re sorry for disappointing you, and we’re sorry for not communicating more clearly along the way. We had good intentions, but unless that makes a difference to you, it’s not enough.”
