So your diet’s recently gone off the boil recently, the chips and chocolate are back and you need a little extra inspiration to eat well – look out for 1980s exercise video king Richard Simmons’ new food steamer Steam Heat that’s just been released by Salton Australia which may be just the inspiration you need.

Richard Simmons? Steam Heat Triple Compartment Food Steamer (EST7AU -$129.95 RRP) features electronic controls that allow individual steaming times to be set for each steamer compartment, or to cook meals simultaneously, such as rice, vegetables or fish.

Using the express steam feature you can steam food 30 seconds after you switch it on and an audible signal can be heard when it’s complete. Steam Heat has a backlit blue-light LCD electronic control panel with five function keys, a 2.4 litre water tank and an external water inlet for quick, easy filling.

The water level indicator tells you when it’s time for a refill and an inbuilt boil-dry protection safety system keep the unit protected. There’s also a keep warm function that keeps food warm for an hour before it automatically shuts down and non-marking feet keeps the steamer secure on the benchtop, plus a built-in egg holder and cooking bowl for steaming rice and making sauces. Compartments are dishwasher safe: it’s recommended to wash them in the top shelf, and it comes with a recipe book.
