Canon has launched its new 2019 consumer and SMB printers and a new service called PrintNow that just may alleviate the need to own a Canon printer at all.
PrintNow by Canon Australia (website here) provides a simple to use
Initial partners include more than 1000 Cartridge World outlets, Urbanista, Xtreme mobile repairs and Adelaide Fuel but Canon expects to see this grow to hundreds of outlets. Canon can provide a suitable printer free to outlets or businesses can use their own Canon printers. If you know a small business with a good street-front presence, Canon would love to hear from them.
Pricing is pretty reasonable given you don’t need to own or maintain the printer.
“We developed PrintNow for those people who don’t want to own a printer at home but do still need to print their photos and documents at a convenient location nearby.” says Jason McLean, Director – Canon Consumer Imaging. “Building a network of printers that will literally be at your fingertips takes that stress away.”
Canon new 2019 models
Canon has a truckload of models – most are not based on a year but what they do, e.g. A4/A3, Inkjet or Endurance, MFC features and duty cycle etc.
The PIXMA TS706 is an A4, five-colour (C, M, Y, BK, PGBJ) inkjet that is suitable for home or SOHO use as well as for creative media including square photo paper, magnetic, transfer, and restickable paper. And with everything, it supports Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. RRP is $169. A replacement set of five standard cartridges is $100, and XL and EXL ink is available.
The TS9565 is an A3, craft printer with five inks (C, M, Y, BK, PGBJ), borderless printing that is suitable for home or SOHO use as well as producing ‘craft’ quality output (45 patterns) for posters, photos, card stock, nail stickers and other creative mediums. It has ADF/glass scan, copy and print functions including a wide range of cloud print support. RRP is $369
Canon says this printer suits photography students, creatives and creative businesses, influencers and families.
On the SMB/SOHO front (Update – all Ensurance printers are not called Megatank
Two new Endurance Ink tank Printers – the G6060 and G6065 print up to 6000 pages mono and 7,700 pages colour with one set of ink (GI60 C, M, Y, PGBK). From what we can tell the difference is the G6065 is the same printer bundled with two extra black ink tanks. RRP is $559 and $599. A set of ink bottles is approx $105.
If you do a lot of printing the Ink Tank system is far more economical getting print costs down to a few cents a page.
Workgroup inkjet multi-function
WG7650 series offer 50-80 pages a minute using page wide print heads. A set of replacement pigment inks is $686 (standard) or $966 (XL). Prices below reflect the main body and first paper cassette than optional finishing or paper handling features.
Canon has PrinterAssist
Canon PrinterAssist is a comprehensive model by model setup and troubleshooting guide with tutorials and videos. There is a chat function as well.
Also, Canon has upgraded its warranty to a replacement. That takes the hassle out of waiting for repairs. For printers you can swear by, not at.
