EA Sports predicts the Euro 2012: will Germany win?

Soccer fans know that one big event is coming up: the UEFA European Football Championship, and makers of the hit FIFA soccer video game franchise – EA – thinks it knows just who will win.

By running the entire event through the same football engine that sits under the UEFA Euro 2012 video game, EA Sports believes it has come up with a winner, with Germany taking out the title.

EA says that it has a track record of correctly picking the winners, including Chelsea beating Liverpool 2-1 in the FA Cup this year, as well as Spain dominating the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. A similar engine is used in the EA Sports Madden NFL titles, with that game predicting seven of the past nine Superbowl Champions.

Based on the results of the engine, EA says that Germany and the Netherlands will make it to the finals of the Euro 2012, with Germany winning 2-1.

What do you think? Will it play out this way, or will your favourite team (provided they’re not Germany) take out the trophy instead?
