ECOVACS AIVI at IFA 2018. I can see clearly now!

ECOVACS AIVI at IFA 2018

ECOVACS ROBOTICS unveiled ECOVACS AIVI at IFA 2018. The AI function introduces object recognition and spatial recognition to reduce manual intervention with robot cleaners.

David Qian, Deputy Chairman of the Board and President of International Business Unit of ECOVACS ROBOTICS said,

“ECOVACS ROBOTICS brings the idea of ‘Live Smart, Enjoy Life’ to the next level by incorporating artificial intelligence into home cleaning.”

“ECOVACS AIVI (Artificial Intelligence and Visual Interpretation) can recognise and avoid objects on the floor. It works with our Smart Navi technology to allows our robots to better adapt to a user’s home environment. This innovation sets a new standard for floor cleaning robots by truly taking the hassle out of floor cleaning.”

Robot vacuum cleaners that think – and never take a day off

ECOVACS is incorporating AI technology into its robots to minimise the user’s role in cleaning-up.

ECOVACS AIVI gives robots a deep learning capability to recognise and avoid selected household items. Things like cables, clothing, shoes, slippers, dustbins, door sills and rugs. AIVI will reduce the need to manually remove objects from the floor.

ECOVACS is committed to protecting customer data and privacy.

By default, the AI technology is only used to match the robot’s surroundings and foreign objects to an on-device database of obstacles. No images are sent back to ECOVACS or to third parties.

Advanced Technology to Meet Different Cleaning Needs

“ECOVACS’ DEEBOT series meets the needs of a range of floor types and cleaning tasks,” explained Jonathan Tang, Vice President of Global Channels of ECOVACS ROBOTICS. “Our signature floor cleaning technologies are now on more of our robots to upgrade their smart home capabilities.”

ECOVACS most important innovation is its Smart Navi mapping and navigation technology. It scans, maps, and plans an efficient cleaning path. The result is a more thorough and systematic cleaning as shown on the apps visual map.

Paired with the ECOVACS App, users can control their DEEBOTs to set cleaning schedules, select cleaning modes, monitor the cleaning process and more. DEEBOTS are compatible with both Google Home and Amazon Echo voice control.

First-of-its-kind WINBOT X for an Optimal Window Cleaning Experience

The WINBOT X is a window cleaning robot. It has cordless power, Deep Clean Mode and Four-Stage Cleaning System. A Safety Tether System stops it from falling. It adapts to diverse types of windows while moving around intelligently, freely and safely to reach higher areas with maximum coverage.

GadgetGuy’s take. ECOVACS AIVI at IFA 2018 makes me want to revisit the robot vacuum cleaner.

Let’s just say that as far as robot cleaners go, DEEBOT’s are pretty good (GadgetGuy review here).

But all robot cleaners suffer from the need to prepare, and that is a pain in the a*&^e.

At a minimum

  • Lift all chairs off the ground (if you want it to clean under tables)
  • Get rid of loose electrical cables
  • Remove clothes/shoes/bags on the floor
  • Build lower gradient ramps if the door sill is over 15mm (if you want it to clean in those areas)
  • Close doors to areas you don’t want cleaning
  • And if necessary set up virtual no-clean boundaries in the floorplan.

AIVI is just the start of the “Rise of the Robots”  where AI enables it to do so much more for us.
