Edifier OnTheGo iPod dock

Edifier has released its new OnTheGo (model number IF350) iPod dock, aimed at the traveller market. The dock measures about 28 cm across, and is compatible with all iPods made in the last 2-3 years. It even includes an auxiliary cable for non-iPod MP3 players.

One feature that’s useful is the navigation of menus in the iPhone and iPod Touch. If you’re across the room and you want to listen to, say, switch to a playlist or shuffle play, you can just navigate via the included remote control.

The speakers deliver great sound – we tried a range of songs, and the dock seemed to deliver the best quality on songs with a bit rate of around 256 kbps (the same bit rate of the iTunes store).

Edifier claim a play time of up to 15 hours on the battery, which should be adequate for any party, or an impromptu rave. The dock is also able to play FM radio. It also packs in the box a neoprene sleeve to protect the unit while on the go.

What you won’t find on the box is the ‘Works with iPhone’ logo. Yes, it plays an iPhone’s music, but should a call come in while it’s docked the volume will drop, but a little feedback will make itself heard.
