It is that time of year when we point to the whimsical or practical Christmas gifts. The Ember Ceramic mug meets our criteria – if it plugs in and there is an app for that!

Named one of TIME’s Best Inventions, the Ember Ceramic Mug combines world-class design with patented technology to revolutionise the coffee and tea drinking experience. It enhances the taste and prolongs the enjoyment of hot beverages, with the ability to set and maintain a preferred drinking temperature at a precise degree, from the first sip to the last drop.

The Ember Ceramic Mug is a great idea.

A mug that can heat drinks to between 50-62.5°, is submersible (as all mugs should be), holds 295ml of coffee, hot chocolate or hot beverage of choice and has an app to help keep it at the right temperature. The Ember Ceramic Mug defaults to 54° if you don’t use the app.

The mug sits on a charging base (cleverly disguised as a saucer) and has a gently glowing light at the base to show its working. The internal battery holds enough juice for 60-minutes of heating.

The Bluetooth LE app (for Android and iOS) allows for temperature adjustment, set pre-sets for different drinks and to personalise the Ember Ceramic Mug. It will also track caffeine intake with the Apple Health app integration, and lets users identify their mug by selecting a personal colour that will display on a small LED light located toward the base of the mug.

Clay Alexander, Founder and CEO, Ember said:

I founded Ember because I believe in the transformative power of temperature control. As an obsessive coffee lover, there’s nothing I appreciate more than enjoying an amazing cup of coffee at the perfect drinking temperature. Simply put, temperature affects taste, and our mission is to empower people to discover that connection- bringing a new dimension to the enjoyment of hot beverages.”

Available in Australia now from Apple Stores across Australia starting today $130.00. Additional Ember Temperature Control Mugs will be available on ember.com in late November.
