Fix coming for Sony’s problematic PS3 update

Every time we want to access the PlayStation Store on our PS3, we have to keep reminding ourselves that updating could break everything. Good news, though, as Sony is aware of the problem and even has a fix coming later this week.

We promised you an update to this story, and now we have one.

Reported last week, an update to Sony’s PlayStation was having the unfortunate side effect of breaking some of the consoles it was applied to. Not all of them, thankfully, but enough for customers to start complaining, and rightfully so.

At the time, Sony told us it was investigating the issue, but now we have a confirmation, with a representative from Sony telling us that:

“We have identified the issue related to the PlayStation 3 software update (version 4.45) that impacted a small number of PS3 systems earlier this week. A new PS3 system software update is planned to be released on June 27 that resolves the issue.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding and we apologise for the inconvenience.”

If you can wait to update your PS3 until the end of the week, you can minimise the risk of breaking it by accident, and being rather annoyed.
