For Samsung, red is the new black

Intent on being the company bringing mainstream consumer electronics design back to looking like stylish pieces of furniture, rather than the utilitarian, functional grey or ‘piano black’ boxes they’ve become, Samsung has introduced its Series 6 and 7 ‘Crystal’ range of LCD and plasma televisions.

Finished with a deep, dark red highlight on the bevel, Samsung says the fascias on its new HD offerings were inspired by glass blowers in Italy, with the 127cm 6 Series model boasting a Full HD 1080p display with 100Hz technology, 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 4 HDMI (v1.3) inputs.

If designer looks aren’t your thing, the company Series 5 LCD and 4 Series plasma high definition TV line-up will suit, with the former providing three HDMI connections and a side-mounted USB 2.0 and the latter incorporates the world’s first 3D-ready HD TV model (the 450). By wearing a pair of purpose-made glasses, viewers will be able to enjoy select DVDs, games and web applications in 3-D. No pricing was available at the time of going to press.
