Game changing Hisense Dual Cell ULED XD TV coming to Oz – CES 2020

Hisense Dual Cell ULED XD

The new Hisense Dual Cell ULED XD technology is a serious challenger to OLED dominance for the best TV image. It is coming to Australia in 2020.

Channel 7 GadgetGuy Val Quinn is over at CES 2020 and says the Hisense Dual Cell ULED XD TV picture quality ‘blows him away.’ Of course, GadgetGuy will review this when available.

And the Hisense Dual Cell ULED XD design is just as sophisticated as the technology. It has a folded aluminium stand, crisp metallic finish and floating edge screen.

Let’s look at the Hisense Dual Cell ULED XD tech

We will get more details soon but here is what we know (we will update this as more details come to hand).

The Hisense ULED XD panel combines two independent LCD layers (mono and colour) that are precision-bonded together.

The monolayer behind the colour layer effectively blocks light from pixels that need to be darker. It has more than two million dimming zones and can achieve dimming as precise as four pixels in a 4K panel – this is amazing. Hisense says its working on even higher dimming ratios. It is interesting to note that the Hisense R8, its premium (and very good) LCD offering in 2019 has 250 zones, so this is a quantum leap!

As such it can deliver Hisense’s deepest blacks yet (via luminance control of the monolayer) as well as high brightness and contrast ratios (from the colour layer). We don’t know the contrast ratio yet but if OLED is ‘infinite’, then Hisense Dual Cell ULED XD will not be far behind. Or put it another way, it will be so far ahead of current LED/LCD technology that it has the potential to severely dent sales of these premium TVs.

Val Quinn says:

The blacks look very deep and are uniform across the screen, with no hint of motion blurring as bright objects move around the screen. Many current LED/LCD TVs can only achieve a greyish black, which tends to ‘bloom’ or bleed light around bright moving objects.

When coupled with its new Hi-View processor and Dolby Vision certification (a superset of HDR), it handles images from pleasant neutral tones to the overly bright saturated demo clips with aplomb – both equally wow viewers.

Head of Marketing at Hisense Australia, Andre Iannuzzi, said:

“If there ever was a Hisense TV technology to challenge OLED, this is it. With its highly innovative composition and design, the Hisense ULED XD combines two LCD layers that are fused together to create one incredibly impressive display. It sets a new standard for LED TVs and we can’t wait to introduce it to Australia.”

VIDAA 4.0 – even easier

With increased AI functionality (universal search functionality, recommended viewing suggestions from the main interface), users can access Amazon Alexa allowing them to search and even switch apps without an Alexa speaker. The OS also includes popular streaming and entertainment apps including Netflix, YouTube, Stan, Amazon Prime Video and Freeview Plus.

Price and availability – Hisense Dual Cell ULED XD

At this time final details are not available, but Iannuzzi says it will be comparable to OLED panels and offer more flexible viewing for brighter Australian lounge rooms. Hisense (website here) is still finalising the design ques and the header image is indicative only.

Val Quinn summarises:

“The Hisense Dual Cell ULED XD TV is a game-changer that breaths terrific new ‘visual’ life into the LCD TV space. The example I have seen gives OLED a serious competitor. Is this the end of OLED dominance?”

Hisense 8K ULED coming to OZ too

Hisense is joining the 8K TV fray with a premium ULED TV (Quantum Dot) featuring Full Array Backlight, Full Array Local Dimming, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Hisense is counting on its new Hi-View Engine that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to recognise and improve low-resolution images. The result – 8K quality, no matter what source your content comes from.

Design wise it has a stylish metal frame, thin diamond cut edge – a sleek, minimalist design. The stand is finished in a dark, brushed aluminium.

Again, no price or availability but expect it to be good value in the current 8K TV melee.

Valens Quinn travelled to CES Las Vegas as a guest of Hisense Australia.
