How much sound do you really need in your home? Samsung has this week shown a sound system that pushes out so much audio, you could try and replicate that old Maxell ad.
You know the one: the guy sits in his chair, turns the volume up, and lets the sheer force of sound push him along.
A new home theatre system from Samsung could do just that – maybe – with the HT-F9750W sending out a whopping 1,330 watts over 7.1 surround.
The sound is “comparable to a movie theatre” and offers “a clearer crisp sound that gives you the finest home theatre experience,” said Andrew Woon, Director of TV and AV for Samsung Southeast Asia, Oceania, and Taiwan.
To make this happen, Samsung is utilising gallium nitride for the amplifier which, from what we understand about the compound, allows the amp deal with a wide range of sound, while the system’s pre-amp uses one of those nifty vacuum tubes seen in at least one iPod and music dock.
A Blu-ray player is also included, part of the amp package, while the device still offers access to Samsung’s Smart Hub and AllShare. Some work appears to have been done with DTS to deliver a higher standard of surround, too.
From what we saw today, the 7.1 system appears to feature four tall speakers with the two front speakers supporting two channels each, and then one centre, and one sub, all in a silver finish (although Samsung did confirm that this will be the only colour available).
While it was previewed at CES earlier in the year, we haven’t been able to have an ears-on play until now.
Make no mistake: this is a loud system. The volume was positively penetrating, and we suspect there was more it could push out.
Gun shots cracking in the air, the scream of a bullet forcing its way through, and then the cracking of tree trunks exploding as the effect is clear that what we were watching – a clip from the latest Sherlock Holmes flick – is one seriously impressive theatrical gun.
Pricing for the home theatre system has yet to be announced, but if you needed a new stereo system, this is one you might have to audition for yourself when it is released in Australia.
Now if only there were seven more watts… (Geek joke, apologies)
