HTC Velocity: Australia’s first 4G phone arriving on January 24

Mobile users wanting to harness the power of 4G speeds will get to do so this year, with HTC the first with a device that can take advantage of high speeds on Telstra’s new 4G LTE network.

Available only on Telstra two days before Australia Day (January 24), the HTC Velocity features a 4.5 inch qHD (540×960), 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8 megapixel rear camera with 1080p Full HD video capture, Bluetooth 3.0, and HTC Sense 3.5.

Telstra launched its 4G network last year, increasing mobile data speeds significantly and providing as much as 40Mbps download speed and 10Mbps upload.

No word yet on whether this model will sport either the latest version of Android (4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich) or the Beats by Dr. Dre audio technology as seen in HTC’s most recent offerings, but we’ll let you know when we go hands-on with the handset on Monday.
