Incipio protects the Surface (first look)

Multi-brand protective case/cover maker Incipio has released a range of hard-shelled slipcovers and soft sleeves for the new Microsoft Surface Pro 2017. They also have the range for older Surface tablet devices and many other makes and models of smartphones and tablets.

I have used the Truman protective padded sleeve before and it has given excellent service. It has a protective nylon exterior, a soft faux fur lining, a leather frame, and a large pocket to hold cords or accessories. Available in Cobalt Blue or Burgundy and the pocket just fits a Surface Pro charger brick. It weights 130g. Price $59.95

I was a little more sceptical about the practicality of the Faraday Folio case that adds a rigid frame and front/rear cover to the Surface – in a similar4 manner a clip on smart cover adds protection. It is made from Plextonium which is Incipio’s version of a polycarbonate resin hard shell that the company says delivers better drop and scratch resistance.

Like all things Incipio it is well designed and made right down to a special Surface Pen holder. The rear “buffer” cover clips on to the tablet allowing the Surface hinge to be used as intended including studio mode. The front cover accommodates the Surface Keyboard/Cover (if you use one) and is leather bonded to a sueded microfibre soft interior. It magnetically clips over the tablet when folded. Available in Black, Navy and Red.

It adds 355g to the Surface but that is a reasonable compromise for the protection it offers for drops and wear and tear. Price $79.95.

Incipio is available online from Casestore, JB Hi-Fi and other retailers. It is distributed in Australia by Cellnet
