Jawbone brings the boom with the Big Jambox

Jawbone’s colourful wireless speaker has just been super-sized, with the company announcing a bigger version of its Bluetooth Jambox portable sound device.

Arriving this week in retailers, the Big Jambox aims to pump out excessing volume with some proprietary driver technology and two passive bass radiators, as well as a form of advanced digital signal processing to bring balanced audio out of all forms of audio, including music, movies, and voice.

That last one is particularly notable, as the Big Jambox also classes as a speakerphone, featuring an omni-direction microphone with echo-cancellation, making it possible for you to cut your music listening short and speak into the box when you get a phone call.

“Jambox was the first wireless speaker to bring stunning audio quality to the music, movies and games normally trapped between earbuds on mobile devices,” said Jawbone’s CEO, Hosain Rahman. “With Big Jambox, we utilised state-of-the-art audio technology to fill a much larger space with amazing sound without sacrificing portability.”

We’re not quite sure we agree with that last comment, as the Big Jambox weighs 1.2 kilograms, and is a larger speaker than you’ll probably want to keep with you permanently.

That said, it does feature a rechargeable lithium-ion battery capable of up to 15 hours of playback and 500 hours of standby time on one charge.

Jawbone’s Jambox will come in three colours, available for $359 RRP at retailers everywhere.
