JVC announces a micro hi-fi for your iPhone, iPad, CD collection

Have an iPad or iPhone but no way of listening to music loudly? No worries, as JVC has a couple of new solutions geared at your iDevice, with one supporting your collection of compact discs.

Announced today, the UX-VJ3 ($329) and UX-VJ5 ($369) put together a stereo system with both an iPhone and iPad docking connection, allowing you to plug both in and watch videos or listen to music from either.

Without an iPad or iPhone, the docking connectors go back inside the system.

Up until now, we haven’t seen many iPad-friendly docks make their way out, with Bang & Olufsen’s $1490 BeoSound 8 being one of the few with support for Apple’s tablet.

While not in the same league as the B&O gear, JVC’s new products do feature an AM/FM tuner, video output, a remote control, 30W total power, and lighting at the base of the unit to give the impression that the system is floating.

And if you’ve still got a CD collection you make use of or the hankering to buy some CDs, the VJ5 (above) goes beyond the iPod dock with the inclusion of a CD player and a mode that can record music directly to a USB stick.

Both units will be heading to stores in August, with the VJ5 available in white and black, and the VJ3 available only in white.
