LG Smart TVs new Filmmaker Mode – all 2020-21 4 and 8K UHD and OLED TVs

Filmmaker mode

LG has started rolling out Filmmaker mode to its 2020-21 4K and 8K UHD and OLED TVs. The firmware update provides automatic Filmmaker mode activation on Amazon Prime content.

Filmmaker Mode was created by the UHD Alliance. This comprises the world’s leading consumer electronics manufacturers, film and television studios, content distributors and technology companies. It seeks to ensure the best UHD viewing experiences.

Filmmaker Mode is about delivering a viewing experience the way the content creators intended. It turns off any picture processing settings that can make movies feel unnatural and cause them to display differently to how the Director intended. It also maintains the film’s original aspect ratio, colours and frame rate.

This ability for LG’s compatible TVs to detect and adjust Filmmaker Mode settings without the viewer’s needing to change manually is an industry first. It paves the way for future TVs to better support streaming services without imposing additional steps on viewers.

LG TV viewers with webOS 5 and 6 will experience depth and realism through the large selection of movies and series on Amazon Prime Video. These include Amazon Originals such as The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, The Boys, The Tomorrow War and the highly anticipated series The Wheel of Time, premiering on November 19. The hotkey on the LG Magic Remote provides one-click access to the Amazon Prime Video app.

LG UHD TVs, including the company’s OLED TV line-up, also have Dolby Vision IQ that intelligently adjusts picture settings based on content genre and ambient light conditions. This results in optimal image quality for any film and any environment.
