LG’s 84 inch Ultra Defintion 3DTV is four times Full HD, possibly coming to Australia

We’ve certainly seen our share or big TVs announced this month, with the massive 75 inch Samsung and 80 inch Sharp, but LG intends to walk right over those models with its own announcement.

With the massive European consumer electronics show IFA set to start in the next few days, LG is showing off a big screen with a bigger picture quality than any other display we’ve seen to this point.

Announced as the world’s first Ultra Definition or “UD” 3D TV, the LG display being shown features a huge 84 inch display boasting four times the resolution of Full HD.

“The 4K display market is still in its infancy but it was important for LG to claim a stake in this space,” said LG’s Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment division.

“LG’s UD 3D TV represents a whole new level of home viewing experience because it offers every advanced technology we currently have to offer.”

Some of the technology we saw this year in LG’s top of the range TVs will be included here, with the motion-based Magic Remote, access to apps with the Smart TV, Dual Play split-screen gaming, and passive 3D technology.

While the announcement might seem huge, from what we can tell, it’s the same product LG showed off in July, although this time the company plans on releasing it to places outside of Korea in September, with North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America mentioned.

It’s also not the first time we’ve heard of this Full HD beating technology, with Samsung showing Ultra Definition TVs in 2010, while also talking up an even higher resolution, the 8K-based Ultra High Definition TV (UHDTV).

With Europe and Asia mentioned, there’s a possibility that Australia will see it shortly, but there’s no word on local pricing at this time. We’d hazard a guess that this thing won’t be cheap, so start from there.
