Lightsabre to officially go Blu in 2011

Star Wars fans can now breathe a sigh of relief: the six movies making up the Star Wars saga are on their way to Blu-ray. Finally.

The good news is that Lucas and his team are working hard to make sure that the release is of the “highest picture and audio quality,” and will include a whole bunch of extra features.
People who saw the movies in their release years – 1977, 1980, and 1983 – won’t be getting those editions unfortunately. Instead, the remastered editions from the 1997 re-release will be used for this Blu-ray edition.
The bad news is that because the release is next year, loyal fans will have to deal with the standard definition DVD releases for at least another five months.
And while the year has been announced, no word as yet on when the price or even a solid date will see the titles available.
If George Lucas takes any more time with this release, Star Wars could be arriving on Blu-ray just as the format dies.
