Microsoft asks you to build a game, possibly win some cash

Ever wanted to be your own game designer, like Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War), Tim Schafer (Stacking), or John Carmack (Doom)? Microsoft is giving you the chance, and there may even be some money in it for you.

As part of the “Dream Build Play” promotion, Microsoft is asking gamers, students, and anyone 18 years or older with a passing interesting in making a game to… well… make a game. That includes art, animation, story, game mechanics, coding, and everything else required to make a game.

“Beat Hazard”, a music-based arcade shooter, received third place last year.

As for what you can win, Microsoft’s prizes include up to $40,000 USD and the chance to sell your title on Xbox Live Arcade.

You can do it solo or as part of a team, and you’ve got between now mid-June to make it. Check the official site for registration details, but if you’ve been looking for a way to get your idea translated into a game, this might be your chance.
