Microsoft, Nokia let loose a line-up of Lumias for late 2014

While we’re still not sure what exactly Nokia is called anymore — Nokia or Microsoft devices, it’s one of them — we do know for sure that the company isn’t shy about releasing models, with three more announced, with at least two arriving soon.

One of the last announcements for IFA in Germany is from Nokia (or Microsoft Devices, whichever you prefer to call the company), with the company announcing more colourful additions to its Lumia smartphones in the form of replacements for last year’s 720 and 820 smartphones.

First up is the 830, which is getting an update from the 820, and it’s more than a digit change, with the 4.3 inch screen jumping up to a high definition 1280×720 5 inch display, putting it below the 930’s Full HD 5 inch screen.

Also inside the Lumia 830 will be 1GB RAM, 16GB storage, expandable memory with a microSD slot, LTE connectivity, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 quad-core chip set to 1.2GHz.

Of particular note will be the camera, boasting a 10 megapixel PureView camera, which will include optical image stabilisation and Zeiss glass to the phone’s 8.5mm metal and polycarbonate design.

The Lumia 830 wasn’t alone in being announced, though, with the Lumia 730 and 735 replacing last year’s Lumia 720.

Both models are very similar, hence the near identical model numbering, and will come with 4.7 inch HD screens (1280×720), the same quad-core Snapdragon 400 from the Lumia 830, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage upgradeable via a microSD slot, and the latest version of Windows 8.1

They both will ship with the highest megapixel front-facing camera of any Windows Phone before it, with a 5 megapixel front camera for selfies, and a 6.7 megapixel camera on the back.

Where the phones differ, however, is the connectivity, with the Lumia 730 being a dual SIM device with support for 3G, while the Lumia 735 will be single SIM (like most handsets) and include support for 4G LTE connectivity.

In Australia, most of the smartphones we receive tend to be single SIM, and so while the dual SIM Lumia 730 could end up here, we’re anticipating Microsoft Devices in Australia to sell the Lumia 735 over the 730.

That said, none of the handsets have pricing or availability dates in Australia at this time, though we’ll be expecting them in late October, alongside an update for Nokia’s handsets called “Lumia Denim,” also expected some time around then as well, since the Lumia 730, 735, and 830 will all ship with Denim preloaded.
