Monty Python – Almost The Truth: The Lawyers Cut

Monty Python celebrates its 40th birthday this year, and the newly-released “Monty Python – Almost The Truth: The Lawyers Cut” is a must-have for any fan.

Originally broadcast by the BBC earlier this year as a six-part documentary, this 2-disc Blu-ray set, or 3-disc DVD set, goes right back to covering the cast members growing up, through to their university day and early entry into comedy, on through to the blazing successes of ‘Monty Python’s Flying Circus’ and ‘Life of Brian’, and the recent ‘Spamalot’ stage show.

There’s new interviews with the surviving Python cast members, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, with archive material used for the late Graham Chapman. Current comedians such as Phil Jupitus, Bruce Dickinson, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Russell Brand, Steve Coogan, Stephen Merchant, Dan Aykroyd, Nick Mason, Tim Roth, Simon Pegg, Eddie Izzard are also interviewed about the influence of the Python troupe on their comedy and careers.

Along with all the documentary material there is also some actual Python material – clips of some of their best sketches, and some previously unseen material.

All in all, an amusing look back at a very influential group of silly men.

Price

The Blu-ray version of Monty Python – Almost The Truth: The Lawyers Cut has an RRP of $59.99, the DVD $49.99.
