Bad news if you were keen to grab the follow-up to Sony’s PlayStation Portable in time for Christmas this year, with news that the PS Vita might not make it to Australian retail shelves until 2012.
Bloomberg has this week reported that Sony plans to release the touchscreen portable console to Japan only this year, with the US and Europe to follow next year. Unfortunately for Australians, that’s likely to include us, with Australia usually lumped under Europe when it comes to video games.
Announced in June, the PS Vita will feature an OLED touchscreen, quad-core CPU, WiFi, Bluetooth, six-axis motion control, front and rear cameras, GPS, and 3G.

I haven’t owned a handheld console for years, but the Vita has really piqued my interest. Lets hope it’s worth the wait! The name does suck though…
