Panasonic Lumix Life Exhibition – get your photos shown in an art gallery

Ever thought to yourself, “Damn that’s a good photo. I really should be exhibited somewhere, where people could admire my creativity and camera craft?”. Well here’s your chance. Photos will be shown online, and the best will make to it in an actual exhibition in a gallery in Sydney – the place, dates and times are listed below. All up a total of 50 exhibitions over the 4 week run. The exhibition is being run by Panasonic Australia, but is open for worldwide entries.

There is something of a catch though – in order to be eligible to be accepted into the exhibition, the photos you submit must have been taken with a Panasonic Lumix digital camera. Fair enough I think, it is a Panasonc competition after all.

Here’s the Panasonic press release regarding the competition – including a link to Panasonic’s Lumix Life website:

Panasonic Australia is putting the world’s best undiscovered photographers on show in a series of unique, dynamic exhibitions in Sydney next month

Panasonic is inviting LUMIX photographers from around the world to vie for one of 50 individual exhibitions to be held in the prestigious Global Gallery in Paddington, Sydney. The call for entries for the inaugural LUMIX Life global exhibition commences from August 13 until September 13, 2009.

The exhibition will open on September 15 and will run until October 10, 2009 at the Global Gallery, Paddington, Sydney. A new exhibition, featuring a collection of 10 images will be hosted every few hours during the gallery’s opening hours. Each exhibition will be displayed on Panasonic Full High Definition Commercial Plasma Display Panels, to ensure the images are magnificently presented.

Panasonic Australia Director, Consumer Electronics Group, Paul Reid said it was the enthusiasm and ability of LUMIX users which provided the inspiration for the project. Currently there are more than 110 million images taken by LUMIX cameras on the photo sharing site Flickr alone.

“LUMIX Life gives LUMIX photographers the chance to see their work properly exhibited. We have seen the wonderful images they have produced and it is terrific that they can finally receive the credit they deserve.

“LUMIX Life is more than an exhibition – it’s a celebration of photography, captured by LUMIX cameras,” said Reid. “It is both a showcase and a meeting place for the global LUMIX community.”

For the chance to see their work on show at the Global Gallery, photographers are encouraged to shoot and upload images at www.lumixlife.com.au (this link will open in a new window) and share their story, creativity or passion. The exhibition gives the entrants the freedom to choose the subject and the theme – it can be personal moments, an artistic collection or an exhibition depicting a passionate cause.

Panasonic has also enlisted the support of some well-known Australian photographers who will provide their LUMIX inspiration including Ken Duncan, Peter Eastway and Nathan Smith. Work will also be submitted from LUMIX users whose names will be familiar to you from other walks of life. Watch the ‘LUMIX Life’ site as we build our ‘celebrity gallery’ during the project.

To be a part of this exciting, groundbreaking project, simply visit www.lumixlife.com.au and load your 10 best photographs, give your exhibition a theme, provide your details and background to your exhibition story. Successful exhibitors will receive a notification detailing the timing of the show.

Every entry exhibition will be viewed and considered by the LUMIX Life judging panel. The panel will consider three criteria when reviewing exhibition submissions:

  • artistic merit of the exhibition as a whole
  • technical competency of photographs, and
  • quality of individual images

In addition to the judging panel there is also a People’s Choice award where anyone can visit the ‘LUMIX Life’ website and vote for their favourite images.
