Sony?s PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a portable entertainment centre capable of playing games, linking to the larger PlayStation 2 console, playing videos on Sony?s proprietary mini UMD discs and storing and playing MP3 or photo files from Memory Stick.

It has no hard drive but can take 1GB Memory Sticks and will only play licensed music, movies and games. The 11 cm, 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD provides a surprisingly good image. It uses USB 2.0 for files downloads but also is equipped with 802.11b wireless and infra-red capabilities.

Despite the lack of hard drive and the need to pay for movies, the price is competitive and this is the portable media player most likely to succeed.
