QacQoc USB-C dock – you would be quackers not to buy it (review)

100% human

QacQoc is a Chinese company that makes quality connectors, docks and adaptors. Shame about the name!

GadgetGuy agreed to review its GN30C  USB-C mini dock. It has turned into an indispensable piece of kit for a MacBook Pro user – although it works equally well with Windows devices and almost any USB-C enabled device including smartphones and Chromebooks.

The key point is that it will work with all versions of USB-C including the combined Thunderbolt 3 ports – although it maxes out at 5Gb/s which is heaps to drive its

  • 3 x USB 3.0 ports (total power available is 1.5A if powered from the Macbook)
  • 1 x HDMI port up to 4K@30Hz
  • SD card
  • microSD card
  • And passthrough power suitable for the latest MacBook Pro

The ports are all well-spaced, so you can easily insert or remove plugs. The Mac styled unit is 120 x 38.5 x 8.3mm and weighs 23.1g. It has four rubber feet and to prevent scratching.

Perhaps its main benefit is that one USB-C cable to the computer is all you need for data and charge freeing up valuable ports.

If you need an Ethernet port as well the GN30H has that.

While we did not review it, the GN28K USB C Hub for New MacBook Pro 2016 and 2017 (Silver) has Thunderbolt 3 ports, but it is only for the MacBook Pro as it fits into the side of the laptop.

GadgetGuy’s take

Well made, very useful, and QacQoc has a known quality. About half the cost of ‘genuine’ Apple or other brand adaptors.

Well under $100 but you will need to search for QacQoc and buy from Amazon
