Ricoh Caplio GX100 slim, wide-angle, digital camera

Ricoh claim that the new Caplio GX100 is the world?s slimmest 10 megapixel wide zoom compact camera and also the world?s first slimline digital to offer an extra wide-angle 24mm optical zoom lens.

In another world first, the Caplio GX100 is the first compact digital camera to support a tilted and removable LCD viewfinder. Designed for viewing in bright outdoor environments the optional viewfinder offers 100 per cent view coverage without the need for parallax correction.

The Caplio GX100 combines the flexibility and instant access of a compact digital camera with the control you?d expect from an SLR, giving camera enthusiasts the opportunity to create a superior photo finish on the fly.

Comprehensive manual shooting functions are combined with Ricoh?s patented Smooth Image Engine II and an advanced vibration correction mechanism to deliver stunning image resolution and clarity – all within a super-slim 25mm package.

The Caplio GX100?s high performance wide-angle zoom lens (24-72mm equivalent) can be expanded to ultra wide-angle 19mm equivalent, using an optional wide conversion lens. Composed of 11 glass elements in seven groups, the GX100 zoom lens delivers sharp, clear pictures without distortion or aberration, while delivering aperture light settings from a high speed F2.5(Wide-angle) up to 4.4(Telephoto). The 7-blade iris aperture enables fine tuning and achieves beautiful blurred backgrounds.

An expanded range of accessories further sets the Caplio GX100 apart from other compact digital cameras. Users also have the option to add an external hot shoe flash, hood and adaptor plus other 43mm diameter accessories.

For that added professional touch, aspect ratios of 1:1 or 3:2 can be selected to allow images to be printed in standard sizes without cropping. Plus, images can also be captured in various combinations of resolution and compression – RAW compression and RAW with JPEG can be selected for ultimate quality.

Despite the sophistication of Ricoh?s latest digital camera offering, the GX100 is even easier to use than its predecessor, the popular Caplio GX8. All dials and buttons have been strategically placed to allow manual settings (such as aperture-priority AE, exposure, white balance and ISO sensitivity), to be selected while holding the camera in just one hand. Two personalised favourite settings can also be programmed for easy recall, while the intuitive icon-driven menu enables the user to effortlessly select from the camera?s long list of additional functions at a touch of a button.

The Caplio GX100 is housed in a robust die-cast metal alloy body and is available in a professional black finish. It also features Ricoh?s signature leather-like handgrip.

Included in the recommended retail price of the camera is a super long lasting rechargeable battery that can take up to 380 shots from one charge. The GX100 is also compatible with standard AAA alkaline batteries and an optional AC power adaptor.
