If you needed a new washing machine, fridge, microwave, or vacuum cleaner, you might want to hold off until the middle of the year, with Samsung showing off four products it plans to launch locally real soon.
First up is the fridge, because it’s the biggest thing in the four product preview we had from Samsung this week, with this new beast of refrigerator pulling in a $5,000 price tag when it arrives in August and providing a 929 litre capacity for your food, beverages, veggies, and more.
Called the T9000, it lacks the liquid metal finish of the T1000 baddie from James Cameron’s “Terminator 2,” but comes with a stainless steel look and boasts a 370L freezer running alongside a 559L fridge. Together, this makes up the 929 litre capacity we mentioned earlier, but you can customise either compartment to accommodate larger or smaller items, with slide out shelves and easy open French doors.
Inside the fridge, there are 13 sensors monitoring temperature inside and outside to change the motor efficiency depending on temperature outside, as well as a cooling system that will provide better temperatures in each compartment inside the fridge.
Going from big to slightly smaller is the next appliance in the list slated for Australia, a washing machine that will let you load and wash seven kilograms of laundry, but packs this machinery into a space with up to 25 percent less depth than similar machines Samsung has released.
Called the “Compact 7kg Front Load Washing Machine,” the name isn’t truly inventive, but it is designed be small, and will even come with a new ultra-speedy washing program, ranging from a fast 15 minute wash all the way to a one hour wash, depending on what you need.
April will see this one out, with a recommended retail price of $1,099 and Harvey Norman grabbing it exclusively for the moment.
From there we have a new microwave that will do more than just warm up your pizza: it will let you rise some handmade dough, cook it, and then make a pizza inside.
Similar to a model previewed at the Samsung Forum in Jakarta earlier this year, Samsung’s 45 litre convection microwave is one of a few new convergence kitchen devices the company is bringing to market that does more than just reheat, with this model working as a microwave, convection oven, grill, and even fermentation product, which creates its own humidified space and allows dough to rise or milk to ferment and become yoghurt.
The inside of the microwave is coated in an easy-to-clean material made from ceramic enamel which we’re told is better against at least one strain of bacteria, while the microwave also comes with a “smart sensor” that can detect the temperature of parts of the food you’re cooking based on humidity and work out how much power and time is required to cook.
This one is available now, hitting retailers for a recommended retail price of $899.
Finally, there’s a new robotic vacuum cleaner, which practically tells us that yes, the future is here.
It’s not quite as talkative as the robotic Rosey from “The Jetsons,” but it will clean all the same, and the latest generation of Samsung’s NaviBot comes with the ability to clean corners using pop-out brushes that push dust into the sight of the vacuum cleaner to let it pick it up.
The cleaner will map your house using cameras on the top of the disc shaped vacuum, taking 15 pictures per second and creating a virtual roof map to let it work out where it’s going in your home. As it works, you can always define areas where it shouldn’t go using virtual fences, and when the NaviBot has run out of power, it will automatically run itself back to its recharge station to let itself charge back up.
Compatible with both hardwood and carpeted floors, Samsung’s NaviBot-Corner Clean will be hitting retailers this month from $1,099.
