Pioneer claims that its high-definition (HD) set-top box offers more lines, more pixels and more colours, with better digital sound making it the ultimate partner for its plasma panels by delivering perfect widescreen digital TV.

At $799, this set-top box is priced at the upper end of ?plain old vanilla? digital TV receivers (those which don?t incorporate a hard disk drive for recording). That said, it is HD and is one of the few on the market to provide an HDMI connection. The unit has adjustable format output, offering 1920 x 1080i, 1280 x 720p, 720 x 576p (PAL: 720 x 576i).
