ShareThis, share that, on GadgetGuy

In the last few weeks, you might have noticed a small green symbol appearing on the bottom of all the pages on the GadgetGuy site, with the word “ShareThis” immediately to the right of the symbol. It looks like this:

Click ShareThis, and you’ll see what a handy little tool it is. ShareThis allows you to pass along any GadgetGuy article or review to friends, family and groups. It might be something that you think will be of interest to others, or something you want to read in detail later, or you could even be suggesting, say, a gift idea.

How do you do this? Easy. Click on the ShareThis link and a small dialogue box appears, with 3 tabs at the top:

  • Social Web
  • Post
  • Send/Email

The choices these three tabs offer you are as follows:

Social Web

This tab allows you to upload a link to the content that is of interest to you to all the popular social networking and bookmarking sites – Facebook, digg, MySpace, StumbleUpon and more. You can see the full list in the graphic below. Click the site you want to upload the link to and you’re taken to that site’s login page. Once you’re logged in just paste in the URL, and voila, you’ve shared.

Post

Post a link straight to your profile page on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, or even to your blog.

Send/Email

Lastly, you can simply email the link. Here’s where you can not only send the link, but also quietly drop in the fact that your birthday, or Christmas, is coming up soon.

Not only does ShareThis allow you to upload your favourite links online and by email, by using the application it saves things you have shared in your ‘sharebox’, making it easy to view the pages again or to re-share the pages.
