Short stuff – Performance 9 subwoofer and Performance 5C centre

In the Performance 9 subwoofer and Performance 5C centre channel, Mordaunt Shortts flagship Performance 6 loudspeaker now has worthy partners for surround sound duties. The latter uses the same proprietary polymer resin cabinet construction of the Performance 6 as well as its ATT (Aspirated Tweeter Technology) tweeter. This features a patented venting system that the company says allows the drivers to literally breathee, resulting in an open yet detailed soundd. The tweeter is flanked by two 13cm anodised aluminium Continuous Profile Cone drivers, a design claimed to deliver minimal distortion and one that is used again the Performance 9 subwoofer, this time as a pair of 25 cm woofers. These are driven by 1000 watts of digital power and mounted opposite each other within a cast steel chassis, a configuration Mordaunt Short says delivers the best possible sound reproduction. Assisting in this is the subbs built-in Active Room Control, a software system that, with the supplied test CD and Sound Pressure Level (SPL) meter, allows the subwoofer to be tuned to any listening environment.

The four-strong range is finished in granite or silver. The Performance 6 costs $9,400 per pair, the Performance 9 costs $3,990, and the Performance 5C, $3,350.
