Sonos adds new amp and Sonos architectural speakers

Sonos

The new Sonos amp adds Sonos sound system features to existing ‘other brand’ speakers as well as its new “Sonance’ architectural range of ceiling and wall mount speakers.

A lot of people have quality bookshelf or other types of non-powered speakers. The amp is a 2.1 stereo, 125W (@ 8 ohms) per channel amp that has HDMI ARC, Optical (via optional adaptor), RCA (in – no preamp) in a tiny 64 x 217 x 217 mm x 2.1kg package. It supports the Sonos amplified sub.

It is controlled via the Sonos app and that enables music streaming and AirPlay2. As such it needs to connect to your home Wi-Fi or wired network.

It is for people with mon-powered speakers that want to join the Sonos family. Price is $999. Website here.

Architectural speakers by Sonance

Sonos call them the first architectural speakers designed for use with the amp.

Sonos

The In-Wall and In-Ceiling speakers will be available for pre-order starting today on sonos.com, with general availability to begin on February 26; general availability for the Outdoor speakers following in April.

Up to three sets of speakers can be paired per amp. The Amp automatically recognises the architectural speakers and optimises their output to create brilliant sound right out of the box. These speakers will be the first third-party speakers to be Trueplay and AirPlay2 compatible, making the fine tune adjustments required during custom installation more seamless than ever before.
