Sony brings 3D panorama shooting to more cameras

The feature that was announced for Sony’s line of NEX mirror-less interchangeable lens cameras is set to grace two more Cyber-shot cameras later this year.

Sony’s TX9 and WX5 will be introduced later this year and put the 3D mode in a nice and tidy package the same size as many of Sony’s other small digital cameras.

Panoramas are captured by firing a burst of images in “3D Sweep Panorama” mode and processed to work on most 3D-enabled television sets. Currently, Sony’s NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras are the only other cameras to offer this feature.

Both new camera models capture images at 12.2 megapixels, feature FullHD video recording, and include a new mode called “Sweep Multi View” that lets users see “3D-like images” that they can view on the camera LCD screen without needing 3D-capable TV.

While the TX9 has got some great specs, it’s sadly not one of those cameras you can drop in a fish tank like we did with the Sony TX5 a few months ago.

Pricing has yet to be announced for either the TX9 or WX5, but expect them to come in under what you’d pay for the Sony NEX cameras ($849 and $1049).
