Sony Cyber-shot TX1 and WX1 digital cameras

Sony Australia has announced details, pricing and availability of its new Cyber-shot TX1 and WX1 digital cameras, incorporating new digital imaging technologies into ultra-compact cameras for the first time, for easy capture of quality images.

Integrating Sony’s Exmor R CMOS Sensor and BIONZ imaging processor into these cameras expands shooting possibilities and provides superior image quality through two new shooting modes – Handheld Twilight and Anti Motion Blur. These new shooting functions take advantage of the camera’s speedy mechanical shutter and processors to achieve lightning-fast, continuous shooting of up to 10 frames per second.

Low-light performance

Both the Cyber-shot TX1 (pictured below) and WX1 (pictured above) digital cameras have an Exmor R CMOS Sensor, which is approximately twice as sensitive as conventional CMOS sensors, resulting in 50 percent less ‘noise’ for improved image quality. This backlit illumination technology enables the image sensor to utilise incident light more efficiently, allowing users to achieve clear photos even when shooting in low-light situations.

BIONZ imaging processor

Sony’s BIONZ imaging processor included in these models delivers high-resolution images and fast performance. When shooting in dimly lit environments, the higher ISO setting and enhanced noise reduction improve image quality.

Both models also feature mechanical shutters that enable lightning-fast continuous shooting of up to 10 frames per second, meaning users will never miss a precious moment.

Panorama feature

Both models capture breathtaking panoramic views by automatically assembling individual frames shot at high speeds. Simply swing the camera in the desired direction to snap stunning landscapes and cityscapes, including vertical shots of tall buildings.

Handheld Twilight mode and Anti Motion Blur mode

Handheld Twilight and Anti Motion Blur modes enable vivid photos due to the ability to shoot six frames of the scene at high speed before superimposing them to produce one optimised image. For those who are attracted by the allure of the night, the Handheld Twilight mode captures cleaner and sharper twilight shots any time, without a tripod in low light conditions.

Lens and screen

The TX1 comes with a Carl Zeiss lens, while the WX1 is equipped with a super wide-angle 24mm f/2.4 G lens by Sony, enabling users to capture superior images even with its compact frame. Also, thanks to the TX1’s LCD touch screen, this model features a new flick option, allowing users to scroll through photos with ease.

HD Movie

HD Movie 720p allows the WX1 to capture HD movies at 30 fps and 1280 x 720 pixel resolution as if grabbing a quick snapshot. The WX1 employs the high-quality, high-compression MPEG-4 format to store up to 60 minutes of movie action on a single 4GB Memory Stick. The camera can be connected via an optional cable to an HDTV such as a BRAVIA LCD TV for home movie viewing enjoyment.

Optional Party-Shot dock (IPT-DS1)

This new accessory works as a system with the camera’s Face Detection and Smile Shutter technologies to automatically capture continuous pictures throughout an event. By automatically panning, tilting and zooming, it searches and captures images that include optimal compositions and smiles, allowing you to capture natural expressions and moments.

With this “automatic photographer”, users can now effortlessly capture precious memories in their daily lives and at milestone events, without having to constantly remember to stop and take photos. In addition, no one will be left out of the photos because they were the photographer at these events.
